| For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.” Romans 1:16-17
I have been for the last 3 months been studying the book of Romans. So far I have learned it is not about the gospel…“IT IS THE GOSPEL.” If you want to know the Gospel then you must know Romans. Romans 1:16-17 is what sets this book off… “the righteousness of God” It is funny to think about Romans being the Gospel because when I think about the Gospel I think about the four spirituals laws. 1. God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life? OPP’S but Paul did not start it off that way. He started off by saying you are all Under Sin. WOW a little different then how most people are told about the Gospel. How can you ever understand how Big Grace is until you understand how big the problem of sin was.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel” Why Paul are you not ashamed? Because “It is the power of God for Salvation to everyone who believers, to the Jew First and also the Greek.” This brings up a question??? Can we become ashamed of the Gospel? The question is not should we be ashamed…but “can we as Christians be ashamed of the Gospel?” I know we should not be ashamed of it, but sometimes I feel as though I am. Because if I were truly not ashamed of it then why do I not tell everyone I see. Why do I not stop every person I see to tell them this news? In 1 Corinthians 1:18 it tells us that “for the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” That word “foolishness” is the Greek word “moria” The world sees the word of the cross as stupid and foolishness. The world looks at us and says, “how can you believe that”, But to us it is the power of God. So maybe since we know the world thinks the word of the cross is foolishness, and the world see the people that believe this as fools too…maybe I care more about what the world thinks of me then what God thinks of me, And because of this I feel ashamed of it…so much so that it keeps me from sharing it with others. I hope as I keep growing in Jesus Christ that like Paul I can stand and say…
